Warming Centers Set Up in Roanoke/Lynchburg Areas

With a major winter storm upon us, warming centers have been set up in the Roanoke and Lynchburg areas.

Call Virginia 211 (Dial 2-1-1) for non-emergency information about centers and shelters status.

UPDATED LIST FROM THE CITY OF ROANOKE:

The following community support centers will be available:

The Rescue Mission of Roanoke will be open 24 hours

Belmont Presbyterian Church will be open Saturday through Monday; pet-friendly (excluding horses)

RAM House - Roanoke Area Ministries will be open normal hours Saturday; CLOSED Sunday and Monday

The Least of These plans to be open from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM starting today, and can accommodate non-aggressive pets

HEMI House of Hope will open Saturday at 3:00 PM and be open as long as needed; cats in crates and non-aggressive dogs on leashes are welcome

The Hope Center Of 11Th Street will be open Sunday 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and Tuesday 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM

ROANOKE:

•Rescue Mission of Roanoke, 402 4th Street SE

The Rescue Mission has implemented a weather plan for the upcoming weather event. Shelter will be open 24 hours during inclement weather. With temperatures expected to drop into the teens, we turn no one seeking shelter away and will ensure no one is left outside in dangerous conditions.

•The Least of These Ministry Warming Bus, 422 Luck Avenue SW. 

Open anytime temperatures drop below 40 degrees.

•The Hope Center, 510 11th St NW

Open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. as a place to warm up, charge phones and get food when power goes out or temperatures drop. The organization can be reached at 540-293-5392.

Belmont Presbyterian Church,1005 9th St SE, Roanoke

LYNCHBURG:

•Salvation Army, 2215 Park Ave

The Salvation Army is operating a low-barrier warming center for unsheltered individuals and families in the community. The center will be open 24/7 beginning Friday evening. A hot meal will be served daily at 4:30 p.m.

The City of Lynchburg’s Human Services staff will support expanded shelter capacity utilizing the Salvation Army’s gym space.
