From ABC 13 - WSET Chief Meteorologist George Flickinger:
Strong t-storms will move across Virginia, beginning Wednesday morning.
WARNINGS:
Severe T-Storm Warnings will be most prevalent. Wind gusts up to 50 to 60 mph are possible, but not all locations will get wind that strong.
GOOD NEWS:
The storms are coming in during the morning—that means temperatures won’t be as warm. Mid 50s to lower 60s. Not as strong compared to if they blew through during the afternoon.
FEW TORNADO WARNINGS are possible.
No, I can’t forecast which counties would have a Tornado Warning, but Southside and Eastern Virginia are more likely locations for Tornado Warnings, as temperatures will be slightly warmer. The closer you are to 65 degrees, the chance for Tornado Warnings goes up.
STORMS GET STRONGER EAST:
The storms should intensify as they move from W to E across Virginia.
MAIN EVENT:
These late morning/lunch time storms are the “main event” for the day.
TIMING:
The strongest storms will be near Lynchburg and Danville near 10 a.m.(ish). Roanoke is closer to 8 a.m. or 9 a.m.
FAST MOVERS:
The storms will move through our area quickly. Rapid clearing will occur after the storms end...
FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE LATE:
A few, less intense showers and t-storms can form late afternoon. Small hail potential with these. The afternoon is “mainly dry."
WINDY ALL DAY:
I’ve lowered wind speed forecasts slightly—but it’s still a windy day. Gusts near 40 mph for Central and Southside Virginia. Closer to 50mph in/near mountains.
