Another Winter Storm Expected to Arrive Midweek

From the National Weather Service in Blacksburg:

The Roanoke Area has been issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for this week with light snowfall amounts expected Tuesday night through Thursday or Thursday night. Low wind chills expected Wednesday night and Thursday night.

The Lynchburg and Danville areas are under a Winter Storm Watch in effect from Wednesday, Feb. 19 through Thursday, Feb. 20:

* WHAT...Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 5 inches possible.

* WHERE...Portions of north central North Carolina and central and south central Virginia.

* WHEN...From Wednesday morning through Thursday morning.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning and evening commutes.

All Virginians should receive measurable snow on Wednesday.

The highest snow totals will be observed in parts of Southside Virginia to Petersburg, Williamsburg, and Hampton Roads.

3” to 6” of snow is expected for the Lynchburg area with 2” to 4” for Roanoke.

3” to 6” or 4” to 8” swaths for Southside with amounts east of Danville higher, west of Danville are lower.

These numbers may change, so stick with ABC13 - WSET Weather for updates.

A swath of 10” totals is within reach east of I-85 and I-95, including South Hill, Petersburg, Williamsburg, Hampton Roads/Virginia Beach.

Snow begins Wednesday morning for most. SW and Southside Virginia receive the first snowflakes. Then snow increases from W to E and SW to NE. You’re in it all day once the snow begins.

Snow falls for 12 to 18 hours for most. Lighter snow could persist for a few hours beyond 18 hours too. Also, most of the precip will fall as snow, this storm is colder than the previous ones.
