The Annual Country Cares For St. Jude Kids Radio-Thon was held last Thursday and Friday, December 5th and 6th, on New Country 107-9 WYYD. The Bobby Bones Show, Amy James, and Scott Stevens spent both days sharing stories of hope, triumph, and even heartbreak from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, asking WYYD listeners to pledge to help fund the research and treatment at the hospital.
Many WYYD listeners became "Partners In Hope," agreeing to give just $19 a month, every month, to support the hospital. At the end of the two-day drive, the total raised was an impressive $54,320! This money will help St. Jude care for kids fighting cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Their parents don't have to pay anything for treatment, travel, housing, or food, allowing them to focus solely on caring for their child.
Thank you to our sponsors, including Hardee's, Steele's Body Shop, and our title sponsor Plato's Closet of Lynchburg, for their generous support.
About St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, located in Memphis, Tennessee, is one of the world's premier pediatric research institutions. Founded by entertainer Danny Thomas in 1962, St. Jude is dedicated to finding cures for childhood cancer and other catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. St. Jude has made significant strides in increasing survival rates for pediatric cancers. For example, the survival rate for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common type of childhood cancer, has increased from 4% in 1962 to 94% today. The hospital's groundbreaking research and treatments are shared freely with the global medical community, ensuring that children worldwide benefit from their discoveries. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food. This unique model allows parents to focus entirely on their child's health and well-being. St. Jude also has affiliate clinics across the United States, providing care closer to home for many families.
