Gleaning For The World is partnering with the Houston Food Bank to deliver and distribute food and supplies throughout Central and Eastern Texas to residents displaced by flooding.

GFTW will be collecting supplies in front of Sam’s Club on Wards Rd. in Lynchburg for a one-day collection on Thursday, May 16 from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm.

Items to donate include non-perishable food items, bottled water, cleaning supplies, paper towels, baby products, pet supplies, and personal hygiene items such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, shampoo, soap, deodorant and feminine supplies.

All donations need to be brand new, unused, and in unopened packages.

And while GFTW will be parked in front of Sam’s Club, donations can be purchased at any store.

Financial donations can be given in person at the collection site, online at GFTW.org, or by a check mailed to GFTW, PO Box 645, Concord, VA 24538 (please indicate “tornado” on the check memo line).

Supplies and financial donations can also be dropped off at Gleaning’s Volunteer Center located at 7539 Stage Road in Concord, Monday-Friday, 9am to 5pm.

You can also call 434-993-3600 for more information on how to help.

“Our hearts go out to the people of the Midwest affected by the destruction of these tornadoes, as well as those dealing with the after effects like the flooding in Texas,” Gleaning’s president, Jeane Smiley-Mason said.

“We host collections for disaster relief supplies in order to give our neighbors in and around Central Virginia the opportunity to directly bless someone facing unforeseen tragedy," Smiley-Mason added.

Earlier this month, GFTW hosted a collection of disaster relief supplies and shipped those items to Sulphur, Oklahoma after a recent series of tornadoes barreled through the middle of the country.

Oklahoma Pastor Bill Leveridge of Crossway Church conveyed his communities’ gratitude stating, “Never in my life have I seen such destruction, at the same time, never have I seen such generosity from individuals and organizations like Gleaning offering aid to our town. Your Gleaning has blessed us!”
