Update from the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, VA:
Winter Storm Watch (Friday night into Saturday) along/near Blue Ridge and the Alleghanys for up to two tenths of an inch of ice combined with an inch or so of sleet and/or snow leading to poor driving conditions. Wintry mix changes to rain and ends Sat night, except for linger upslope in the mountains.

Much of Central VA will experience a wintry mix of rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow.
Saturday looks more of a mess than a “winter wonderland.”
Most of Southside is either a wintry mix or all rain.
If anyone is reading this in the Danville area, I would not be optimistic about building a snowman. Most of your precip is rain.
One thing that won’t change is the heaviest snowfall will be in the mountains. Amounts over 6” are easily within reach.
TIMING: Starts Saturday morning. Precip could be starting before sunrise.
ROANOKE: 1” to 2” with 3” totals (possibly higher) in the mountains. But changing to a wintry mix which helps melt the snow.
NEW RIVER VALLEY: Likely has a higher snow total than ROA.
LYNCHBURG/BEDFORD: Wintry mix. Brief morning snow near Saturday sunrise. Brief accumulation could occur before it melts in the rain. Afternoon temps near 35. Brief snow also possible Saturday night.
