Salem, VA – iHeartMedia’s New Country 107.9 WYYD has announced that on-air talent and Senior Vice President of Programming Scott Stevens will attempt to break the world record for high fives by one person in a 24-hour period for the “High Fives For Suicides Prevention” at the Salem Fair beginning June 30 at 6 p.m. at the Salem Civic Center.
The current record is 14,607 set in September 2012.
Volunteers representing the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) will also be on site during the 24-hour period to provide support and information on suicide prevention.
Established in 1987, AFSP is a voluntary health organization that raises awareness, funds scientific research, and provides resources and aid for those affected by suicide.
AFSP and Scott Stevens want to help spread the word about the upcoming “Out of the Darkness Walks” to be held throughout the region, to support those affected by suicide and to raise awareness and much-needed funds, strongly sending the message that suicide can be preventable, and that no one is alone.
Anyone can call or text the national suicide prevention and crisis lifeline at 988 any time.
Attendees can stop by anytime in the 24-hour period from 6:00 pm on Friday, June 30 through 6:00 pm on Saturday, July 1 to give a high five for suicide prevention.
This year’s Salem Fair runs June 28 through July 9.
