Auburn released a statement on its website:

"Hugh Freeze has been named the 31st head football coach in Auburn's 129-year history, Athletics Director John Cohen announced Monday," Auburn said.

Liberty University's head football coach, Hugh Freeze, is headed to Auburn University, according to Sports Illustrated, which was the first to report that Auburn was finalizing a deal with Freeze.

Freeze will be returning to the SEC, where in 2017, he was fired by Old Miss amid an NCAA and personal scandal.

The Associated Press says a person with knowledge of the negotiations said on Monday that Freeze has signed a memorandum of understanding with Auburn.

Previously, Freeze had signed an eight-year contract extension with Liberty, ABC 13 - WSET reported back on Oct. 28.

Freeze, who took over the Liberty football program in 2018, went 34-15 in four seasons at Liberty.

He replaces Bryan Harsin, who was fired on Oct. 31 after going 9-12 in less than two seasons at Auburn.
