Lynchburg Shooting Causes Nearby School Lockdowns

Update: According to Lynchburg City Schools, all lockouts and lockdowns have been lifted; however, dismissals will be delayed.

All after-school activities have been canceled at all schools.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — The Lynchburg Police Department said two people were taken to the hospital following a shooting Wednesday afternoon in the area of 12th and Pierce streets.

Two victims arrived at Lynchburg General Hospital stating they had been shot.

According to police, both are listed in stable condition and are being treated for their injuries.

LPD said callers reported hearing additional shots fired minutes later from the area of Lakeside Drive and Murrell Road. No injuries have been reported as a result of this incident.

Because of the shooting, Lynchburg City Schools said two schools were placed on a lockout and one on a lockdown at the advisement of police on Wednesday afternoon.

Lynchburg City Schools said the following schools have been placed on a lockout: R. S. Payne Elementary School and Dunbar Middle School, both located on 12th St.

All students and staff are inside and safe. A lockout means no one is allowed in or out of the building, Lynchburg City Schools said.

Following this announcement, LCS said that around 3 p.m. E.C. Glass High School was placed on lockdown.
