Update: UVA Shooting Suspect in Custody

UPDATE:

UVA Police officials confirmed that the suspect, Christopher Darnell Jones, a former UVA football player, has been taken into custody.

According to UVA's President, Jim Ryan, the three victims killed are UVA Football Players.

They are Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis, and D'Sean Perry.

Ryan said the two injured included one in good condition and another in critical condition.

Henrico County Police say they discovered the suspect's vehicle overnight and that Jones was apprehended without incident.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WSET) — Three people are confirmed dead and two others are hurt after a shooting Sunday night at the University of Virginia.

The suspect has been identified as Christopher Darnell Jones, a former UVA Football player and is still at large.

The suspect is considered armed and dangerous. The situation is ongoing and updates will be provided as they are received.

The UVA Police Department said to expect increased law enforcement presence in the area as they do a complete search on and around the UVA Grounds.

The president of UVA, Jim Ryan, put out a statement via Twitter confirming the deaths, saying in part, "This is a message any leader hopes never to have to send, and I am devastated that this violence has visit the University of Virginia."

Following the shooting, Ryan says classes for Monday are canceled and support services are available to students.

UVA Police believe the suspect may be driving a black SUV with Virginia tags that read TWX3580.
