BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — The Bedford County Fair isn't happening this year.
Pam Bailey, the director of economic development for Bedford County, said Tuesday that "after extensive research, collaboration, and discussions the Bedford County Fair Board has decided to not move forward with hosting a county fair in the fall 2022."
Bailey says that public feedback over the location, size, attractions and scope led the board of supervisors to its decision to cancel this year's festivities "in hopes of a larger event in the near future."
The Bedford Moose Lodge was selected as the site of the 2021 fair; but organizers said they needed an event space that included ample on-site parking.
"Currently the board is working with county administration to identify possible locations for 2023 as well as looking into viable ways to organize and execute the fair in the future," the statement from Bailey reads.
The 2020 and 2021 fairs were canceled because of COVID-19 concerns. The fair was last held in 2019.
