LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — Amtrak Crescent train number 20 traveling from New Orleans to New York Monday remains in Lynchburg after inclement weather and power outages in Northern Virginia.

Monday morning, train 20 left New Orleans and headed to Lynchburg to pick up passengers to reach their final destination of New York.

The train left Lynchburg at 9:41 Monday morning, made it 20 miles, and then returned to Lynchburg due to the weather and power outages.

After that, the train was expected to leave the station in the afternoon but due to power not being restored, they are unable to leave.

Amtrak says they are serving food, and that water and bathrooms are working.

Officials say the passenger train out of Lynchburg was stopped because a separate train encountered downed powerlines and trees on the tracks north of Nelson County.
