Gleaning For The World will be collecting disaster relief supplies this week in preparation for what is expected to be an active hurricane season this summer.
The GFTW truck and staff will be at Sam's Club, 3912 Wards Rd. in Lynchburg, Friday, June 18 and Saturday, June 19 from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm both days.
NOAA is predicting an above normal Atlantic hurricane season with three to five major storms predicted.
“We want to get a head start collecting disaster relief supplies this year,” Gleaning’s president, Jeane Smiley-Mason, said. “When disaster strikes, our team works as quickly as possible to collect critically-needed supplies and send them on their way to those affected by these massive storms. The sooner we can get a truck loaded, the sooner we can get the truck on the road.”
GFTW is asking the public to donate new, unopened, and unused supplies such as nonperishable foods, sports drinks, paper household goods, baby supplies, pet foods, hygiene items, and cleanup supplies such as gloves and trash bags.
Donors are welcome to shop at any store and drop off the supplies at Gleaning’s truck centrally located at Sam's Club.
Online shoppers can donate through Gleaning’s Disaster Relief Amazon Wish List, which can be found at GFTW.org/wishlist.
Monetary donations for Gleaning’s disaster response program can be made in-person during the collection, or online at GFTW.org/relief.
Checks can be mailed to GFTW, PO Box 645, Concord, VA 24538.
