Lynchburg Parks & Rec to Say Goodbye to Nature Zone Resident 'Butters'

Lynchburg Parks and Recreation's Nature Zone is saying goodbye to a long time resident, Butters.

Chief Naturalist Katherine Clement made this announcement:

Dear Parks and Rec family,

It is with a heavy heart I must inform you that Butters, our sweet domestic rabbit, will be laid to rest tomorrow afternoon [Friday, April 9].

This past December, our veterinarian informed us he was suffering from chronic kidney failure. Since then he has received medical care, treats and ear scratches to his little hearts content. Recently, we have seen a drastic decline in his health.

He has been a member of the Nature Zone for over 6 years. We invite anyone to stop by today or tomorrow morning if they wish to say goodbye.

Butters made friends with thousands of Lynchburg children over the years.

Lynchburg Parks and Recreation's Nature Zone is located on the first floor of the Miller Center, 301 Grove St. in Lynchburg.

The Nature Zone is free and open to the public Fridays and Saturdays from 12 noon until 4:00 pm.

Visit the Nature Zone website for more information.
