GFTW Brings Supplies to Those Without Power in Charlotte County

After Saturday’s ice storm, 80% of residents in Charlotte County are still without power. Linemen are working to replace power poles and remove debris from electric wires, but no one knows for sure when the electricity will be 100% running once again.

With another ice storm headed into the area Thursday, Gleaning For The World made two deliveries to the Charlotte County fire house today (Feb. 16). These deliveries included nearly 2,500 warm blankets, as well as thousands of bottles of Gatorade and Muscle Milk protein shakes.

“We hope these items will help provide comfort to those dealing with this power outage,” Jeane Smiley-Mason, Gleaning’s president said. “The electrolyte drinks and protein shakes should help during a time when folks simply cannot cook in their homes."

With yet another winter storm forecast for later this week, Gleaning For The World plans to continue serving our neighbors. If you’d like to donate towards this effort, please visit gftw.org/charlottecounty.
