Lynchburg Area Veterans Council Announces Desmond T. Doss Day, Oct. 12

Lynchburg Area Veterans Council will hold an event honoring World War II Medal of Honor recipient and Lynchburg native, Desmond T. Doss, on Monday, October 12, 2020 at 11:00 am at the birthplace and childhood home of Doss located at 1309 Garfield Ave. in Lynchburg.

LAVC recently purchased the Garfield Ave. property to use as a residence for veterans who were previously experiencing homelessness.

The Military Order of the World Wars, Virginia Piedmont Chapter, will present a plaque memorializing the service of Corporal Doss and marking the 75th anniversary of his receipt of the Medal of Honor on October 12, 1945.

Desmond T. Doss, Jr. will be present at the event.

LAVC will also hold a free showing of the documentary, "The Conscientious Objector," on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at 7:00 pm at the American Legion post at 1301 Greenview Dr. in Lynchburg.

The Council provides resources and supportive aid to Military Veterans in need for the City of Lynchburg, Amherst, Bedford, and Campbell counties.
