Gov. Northam says the state needs to keep an eye on Southwest Virginia as the COVID-19 positivity rate there stands at 8.1%, which Northam says is the highest in the state.
Positivity rate means the percentage of coronavirus tests that produce a positive result.
The VDH reports that the state's overall positivity rate is 7.1 percent.
Northam said he’s concerned because the southwest region doesn’t have as many hospitals as other parts of the state; however, he says he does not want to impose restrictions on the area.
Last week, Northam eased restrictions in the Hampton Roads region, allowing the region to join the rest of the commonwealth in phase three.
The Governor reminded Virginians to keep social distancing, avoid gatherings and wear face coverings.
