Mandatory 9 pm Curfew Continues in Lynchburg Tonight

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- Lynchburg City leaders announced Thursday that the mandatory curfew will continue for tonight, June 4.

The mandatory curfew has been shifted to 9 p.m. - 6 a.m., but city council could reconsider this at the next meeting on June 9.

City Manager Bonnie Svrcek said she will announce every day at noon whether the curfew is in place.

Svrcek will make a a decision regarding continuing the curfew through the weekend on Friday, June 5.

โ€œThe Lynchburg Police Department appreciates the peaceful protest [Wednesday] night,โ€ said Chief Ryan Zuidema. โ€œWe look forward to additional conversations with our community to move the city forward.โ€

Under the curfew, people should not be present on any street, road and park with the following exceptions:

  • Persons traveling to and from home, work, or places of worship
  • Hospital personnel
  • Members of the press
  • State and City of Lynchburg employees and volunteers
  • Military personnel including, but not limited to, National Guard troops
  • Employees of public utility companies
  • Private emergency medical transport workers
  • Persons seeking emergency services
  • Homeless persons

A violation of the ordinance shall be punishable as a Class 1 misdemeanor.
