Centra Looking at COVID-19 peak in May, Believes it is Able to Meet Needs

Centra Health in Lynchburg has been changing its plans rapidly to help prevent further spread of the virus.

During a virtual news conference on March 31st, Centra said there are 26 positive cases of coronavirus within its coverage area.

Dr. Chris Thomson, who serves as Medical Director at Centra, said three of the people who tested positive are patients in the Intensive Care Unit at Lynchburg General. He said all three patients in the ICU are in critical condition and one patient is in non-critical care.

Dr. Thomson also said patients who are in the ICU are separated from other patients in the hospital.

During the news conference, Centra's President and CEO, Dr. Andy Mueller, said it appears the peak of COVID-19 in Virginia will be in May, according to the model cited by President Donald Trump, and coronavirus won't see an end until early July. He said he feels confident Centra will be able to meet the needs of the community based on the current models from the University of Washington.
