VDH Update: 890 coronavirus cases and 22 coronavirus-related deaths in Va.

RICHMOND, Va. (WSET) -- The number of coronavirus cases in Virginia continues to rise.

According to the Virginia Department of Health, there are 890 cases of coronavirus and 22 deaths in Virginia as of Sunday, March 29. That's up 151 cases and 5 additional deaths since yesterday.

The Virginia Department of Health’s Alleghany Health District announced on Saturday, March 28 that a resident of the district, a woman in her 80s, who was ill with COVID-19 has died.

“Sadly, we have experienced our first local COVID-19-related fatality. We send our sincere condolences to this person’s family,” said Molly O’Dell, M.D., director of communicable disease control, Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts.
