RICHMOND, Va. (WSET) -- The Virginia Department of Health has released new numbers for coronavirus cases in the state, which shows more than 600 confirmed cases.
The new numbers released by the Virginia Department of Health on Friday show there are 604 cases, 83 hospitalizations, and 14 deaths. Remember, these numbers reflect cases reported to the VDH before 5 p.m. the day before.
That's an increase of 144 cases since Thursday.
The new numbers released March 27 show that there are now two confirmed cases in Lynchburg and four confirmed cases in Danville.
It also shows that the City of Roanoke has its first case.
The Richmond-area Canterbury Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, which treats mostly elderly patients recovering from injuries or illnesses including strokes, said four patients have died from COVID-19 complications and sickened many other patients and staff.
“We are going to see these numbers, unfortunately, continue to rise,” Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam said. “We will continue to work on measures to contain the spread of this virus, and we are focusing our efforts on making sure that our medical system is prepared.”
Gov. Ralph Northam will be holding a press conference at 2 p.m. Friday to provide an update to Virginians.
