The Virginia Department of Health reports 290 confirmed cases of coronavirus/COVID-19 in the state currently. There have been 7 deaths so far, including a man in his 70s in Virginia Beach on Monday.

Governor Northam urged Virginians to continue with social distancing and basic health precautions. He urged people to stay home and only venture out if necessary.

An Executive Order issued Monday calls for restaurants to only serve take out orders, do curbside service or deliveries. It also ordered personal care services, such as barbershops, salons and spas, and recreation and entertainment businesses, such as bowling alleys and movie theaters, to close for 30 days.

Any business with questions about the executive order are asked to email business@va.gov.

The Governor warned that it will still take several months to get through this health crisis and economic crisis.

State Health Secretary, Dr. Daniel Carey, says his department continues to look for new ways to get the personal protection supplies needed for Virginia's hospitals, health care workers and first responders. He said a shipment from the national stockpile reserve arrived yesterday and a second order is expected next week. Another order of more than 1 million masks from a manufacturer is expected in 10 days.

Carey urged medical facilities in the state to halt elective procedures.

Northam said that Virginia's numbers will continue to go up. "We are no where near the peak, but if we work together, we can flatten the curve to protect our health system," Northam said.

The Governor and his team will continue to hold live online information sessions at 2:00 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on the Governor's Facebook page. Additional live online briefings will occur if needed.
