Gov. Daily Update: COVID-19 Cases in Virginia Now at 152

The number of coronavirus cases in Virginia has risen to 152, up 38 cases from yesterday. The death toll remains at 2.

With an increased number of test kits now available, VDH will increase the testing of health care workers and first responders who have been in direct contact with COVID-19 patients. In addition, the testing of those in nursing homes will increase.

Gov. Northam continued to encourage all Virginians to practice social distancing and other basic health precautions. He also reminded restaurants, gyms and theaters to abide by the no more than 10-person rule or those businesses could be charged with a misdemeanor or possibly lose their business license.

State Health Secretary, Dr. Daniel Carey, says his department was able to distribute some personal protective equipment to health care providers and first responders on Friday. His department is following all leads to procure additional equipment.

Gov. Northam says the Virginia National Guard is standing by, ready to help if needed. Some units are already helping to distribute supplies.

Northam also signed an executive order easing state regulations to allow hospitals and nursing homes to add more beds as the need arises.
