Virginia Supreme Court Justice Declares Judicial Emergency

RICHMOND, Va (WSET) -- The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia, Donald Lemons, has declared a judicial emergency in response to the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Lemons writes in the order this comes at the request of the Governor.

The order is in effect immediately in all state district and circuit courts, and runs to April 6, 2020, but could be extended.

The declaration orders all non-essential civil, traffic and criminal matters, including jury trials be put on hold, with some exceptions, including things like emergency matters, child custody, and civil commitment orders.
