Utility Companies Ordered to Halt Disconnections for 60 Days in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WSET) -- The State Corporation Commission (SCC) in Virginia has directed utility companies to suspend service disconnections until the coronavirus outbreak subsides.

According to SCC, they have directed electric, natural gas and water companies to place a 60-day moratorium on disconnecting services for any customer or business who may be financially impacted by the pandemic.

Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring filed an emergency petition with the SCC last week.

“We’re in an emergency here, and utilities shouldn’t be able to cut off Virginians’ water, power, and gas at the same time we’re asking them to stay home to prevent the spread of this virus,” said Attorney General Herring.
