State of Emergency Declared in Virginia, 17 Cases of Coronavirus Confirmed

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WSET) -- Governor Ralph Northam declared a State of Emergency amid the coronavirus pandemic Thursday, March 12.

The Virginia Department of Health has confirmed that Virginia now has a total of 17 confirmed cases of the coronavirus.

Virginia is cancelling state sponsored conferences, and banning work-related travel by state employees for 30 days.

Gov. Northam also advised to cancel large gatherings in the state.

According to the department's website, 10 cases are in Northern Virginia, two in Central, four in Eastern Virginia, one in Northwest Virginia.

No cases have been reported in Southwest Virginia, which is the majority of our area.
