Selena Gomez just dropped some surprising details about her new album.
During Mondayâs appearance (January 13) on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Gomez revealed she recorded a never-before-heard track on her latest record, Rare, thatâs sheâs planning to release soon. Whatâs more, fans are speculating the unreleased song, titled âBoyfriend,â is more or less of a hint that the pop star has a new man in her life.
âThere's a few other songs that I couldn't help but want to exist, so I can't really tell when,â Gomez said, âbut one of my favorite tracks is called âBoyfriend,â so I can't wait for people to hear that one.â
Although Gomez didnât go much more into detail about the record or when she intends to release it, fans will recall this isnât the first time sheâs dropped a hint about the unreleased song. In an interview with WSJ. Magazine, one of the âLose You to Love Meâ starâs collaborators on Rare, singer-songwriter Julia Michaels, dished on writing a song with Gomez and fellow singer-songwriter Justin Tranter that didnât make the final cut, called âI Want a Boyfriend.â
While writing Rare, Michaels revealed one day she asked Gomez, âWhat kind of mood are you?ââ In a text, the musician replied, âIâm feeling strong and happy. ⊠I really just want a boyfriend.â What came from the exchange was a track called âI Want a Boyfriend,â of which Tranter dished: âOne of the lyrics is about a fine line between a want and a need. Yes, she wants a boyfriend, but itâs not a need. Sheâs OK on her own, and we all should be too.â
In a video interview with the publication, Gomez said the song was her favorite sheâs ever written. She also revealed the track is about love and hardship and vulnerability. "Thatâs kind of what I want right now," she added. "Iâve been single for two years. Itâs maybe nice.â
