This holiday season you can walk, at your own pace, through a half-mile wooded path filled with displays celebrating nature, fantasy, adventure and Christmas traditions in Roanoke County.
Roanoke County and Center in the Square announced a partnership to host an annual holiday light show at Explore Park.
This inaugural event will take place over 26 days between Friday, November 29 and Wednesday, January 1.
Adult tickets are $13 online and $17 at the gate and children between 2-14 are $6 online and $10 at the gate.
If you register in advance, you'll be asked to select an hourly arrival time that includes 5 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Illuminights is a walking tour featuring over 500,000 lights.
Additional activities on select nights will include carriage rides, a Santa shop, cookie decorating crafts and Santa visits.
- Children's Santa Shop - Let the kids shop for gifts on their own, under the supervision of staff. Dec. 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22 only.
- Santa Visits - Santa will be available for stories and photo ops. Dec. 16-19, and 23 only.
- Edible Art - Decorate holiday cookies on Dec. 1, 5, 8, 12, 15, 19, 22, 26 & 29.
Carriage Rides - For an extra fee, enjoy a magical ride on a horse drawn carriage. $10 per person for wagon style seating. $15 per person for a covered Cinderella carriage. Dec. 5, 12, 19, 26, 31.Appreciation and discount nights include:
- Group Discounts Nights - Every Thursday, groups of 10 or more receive 10% off admission with advance registration.
- Military Night - On Monday, December 16, all active and retired military personnel showing valid ID will receive a 20% discount on admission.
- First Responder Night - On Monday, December 23 all fire, rescue and law enforcement professionals showing valid ID will receive a 20% discount on admission.
- Human Services Night - On Monday, December 30, all teachers, social workers and medical professionals showing valid ID will receive a 20% discount on admission.
They will also celebrate the new year with special activities on December 31, New Year's Eve, that include:
- Act of Kindness Tree - Make a commitment to doing good in the new year by creating and hanging a special ornament.
- Craft Activity - Create a noisemaker and festive hat.
- Toast at Ten - A sparkling cider toast in the main plaza, complete with plastic fluted glasses and glow sticks for the kids. Make lasting memories at a special photo op.
This event is a fundraiser for Center in the Square and Explore Park, with proceeds going to support the valuable community missions of each organization.
