VDOT reminds motorists to turn on headlights in the rain

When it's raining and you have your windshield wipers going, your headlights need to be on --- it's the law in Virginia.

That's the reminder from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) as scattered thunderstorms are in the forecast through Friday, August 23, and rain this weekend.

VDOT hows you what your vehicle looks like in the mirror of a truck when you're driving in the rain without headlights.

It's nearly impossible to see the vehicle in the mirror with no headlights.

Also, make sure you alter your speed for the condition you are driving in and allow extra stopping distance.
