Black Dog Salvage and First Fridays partner for new music venue in Roanoke

The Dog Bowl, the latest addition to Black Dog Salvage, opens Saturday, August 24, 2019 with the band Fuzzy Logic, the first of three music series for 2019.Located between the Roanoke River Greenway and Black Dog Salvage, The Dog Bowl offers an intimate outdoor setting in signature Black Dog Salvage Style.

Black Dog Salvage has partnered with First Fridays, Roanoke’s original “Party with a Purpose," to manage the music series and proceeds from the events will go to support local charities.“It was important to us from the start that we support the community with The Dog Bowl,” said Black Dog Salvage co-owner, Mike Whiteside. “With over 30 years of event management and a commitment to local non-profits, Molly Henry and her team at First Fridays will ensure an exceptional experience for our guests.”

Viewers of Black Dog Salvage’s reality television show, Salvage Dawgs, first learned about the project in May when the crew salvaged a repurposed semi-trailer from a drive-in located in Moneta, VA in Season 10, episode 10.The semi-trailer now serves as the backdrop of The Dog Bowl stage.True to Black Dog’s roots, the venue features a variety of upcycled materials. An old mezzanine saved from Black Dog’s main warehouse now supports the stage platform, an old radio tower holds the lights and speakers above the stage, and a salvaged corn crib will serve as a drink ticket booth.

Ride Solutions will be on-hand to provide free bike valet parking and a Zagster station will also be available on-site.Guests are encouraged to walk, bike or utilize ride services like Uber and Lyft. Parking is limited.
