Warning: Don't touch pig ear treats or feed them to your dog

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is reporting a multi-salmonella outbreak tied to pig ear treats for dogs.

The CDC reports 127 cases in 33 states as of July 31, 2019.

The CDC and the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) are advising people to not buy or feed any pig ear dog treats to pets, including any that may already be in homes.

People can get sick after handling the treats or caring for dogs who ate the treats. Dogs might get sick after eating them.

They said 26 people have been hospitalized, but no deaths have been reported.

State health and regulatory officials in several states and the FDA have tested pig ear dog treats at various suppliers and identified many different strains of Salmonella.
