Man told police home was broken into before girlfriend found shot dead

The boyfriend of a woman found shot dead in Roanoke told police it looked like his home was broken into the night the woman died and when he got home, he discovered she was missing.

Roanoke Police responded to the area of 936 Morehead Avenue around 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2019, to find a woman with a gunshot wound on the sidewalk. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

As officers were securing the area, a search warrant shows the resident of 922 Morehead Avenue approached police telling them he just got home and that his home had been broken into.

He also told police that his live-in girlfriend was missing.

Police said a witness identified the victim as the resident of 922 Morehead Avenue.
