Man wanted after shooting at someone in a vehicle; drugs also found

The Henry County Sheriff's Office said they are looking for a man who shot at someone inside a vehicle during an argument over the weekend.

The sheriff's office said the 911 center got a call around 11:34 a.m. Saturday, June 29 about a vehicle being shot into on Chatham Road in Martinsville.

Deputies responded to the scene and determined that 34-year-old John Christopher Simmons, of 182 Lakewood Park Drive, fired multiple gunshots into an occupied vehicle.

No one was injured.

Through their investigation, deputies located the vehicle that was driven by Simmons.

When he saw deputies, Simmons fled into a wooded area.

A search of his vehicles yielded four handguns, 3.5 ounces of suspected cocaine, 2.85 ounces of suspected heroin, 2.5 ounces of methamphetamine, and $7,000 in cash. The sheriff's office said the approximate street value of the drugs is more than $18,000.

The drugs will be taken to the Virginia Department of Forensic Science for analysis.

Simmons is now currently wanted on 13 felony and one misdemeanor warrants.

  • Shooting into an occupied vehicle, 10 counts.
  • Possession of a firearm by a violent convicted felon.
  • Felony destruction of property.
  • Possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
  • Reckless handling of a firearm (misdemeanor).
