New 'The 100' Season 5 Footage Teases Intense Fight for Survival

Every day that passes gets us one day closer to the premiere of the fifth season of The 100 - and if you're anything like me, time can't pass fast enough. It's been awhile since we last saw our favorite grounders - almost a full calendar year. It looks like The CW is going to make up for the long hiatus by giving fans the most dramatic season of The 100 yet. If you've been with this show since the beginning - and if you're not caught up yet, you better get on it - you know that's truly saying something. Brand new The 100 season five footage dropped today and it teases an intense fight for survival.

The new footage was revealed by E! News and it gives fans another sneak peak at what is to come when the show comes back on April 24th. We got another look at Clarke's relationship with her "adopted daughter" Madi and how the two met after the death wave. Clarke has been looking after Madi for six years now, so, we'll definitely be seeing a whole side of The 100's complex heroine. Show runner Jason Rothenberg opened about Clarke and Madi's future, revealing that this new mother-daughter dynamic will complicate Clarke's relationships with Bellamy and Octavia. "What happens if her daughter's well-being in some way contradicts what Bellamy and/or Octavia need—which is a really ambiguous way of describing things—but where will Clarke fall if a choice that is right for her child is not the choice that's right for her people?" Rothenberg teased "So we'll see Clarke being forced to make the kinds of decisions unlike we've seen her have to make before."

In a voiceover in the new footage, Clarke can be heard questioning her place in this new post-praimfaya world. "The question is," Clarke narrates as the teaser shows her watching the prison ship land in her new green oasis, "what happens to the Commander of Death when there's no one left to kill?" The shot combined with the voiceover definitely implies that Clarke's six years of peace with Madi are coming to an end in season five.

Eliza Taylor - who plays Clarke on The 100 - spoke about what's to come for Clarke and Madi, especially considering Madi may not have yet seen the "Wanheda" side of Clarke yet. "Clarke's gone through tremendous loss in her life, as we all know, over her short time on the ground before the time jump. We thought that she was going to be alone at the end of season four, but now having this little sidekick who she loves with all her heart, a surrogate daughter type, she's found some sort of peace and happiness... until of course the prison ship comes down," Taylor said. "We've seen Clarke as a leader before, but never as a mom."

If Madi hasn't seen "Wanheda" come out yet, this new sneak peak reveals that she definitely will in season five. There's a brief shot of Clarke shooting somebody - most likely somebody from the prison ship - point blank right in front of Madi. Yikes.

The new footage also offers a little more insight on the passengers of the prison ship. After they land their ship on the only patch of survivable land on the planet - aka Clarke and Madi's home - one of the prisoners says they have to "figure out what the hell happened to our planet while we're asleep." This one line implies that these guys missed the first nuclear meltdown on Earth, so, they really have a lot to catch up on. (Maybe the should binge the first four seasons of The 100 on Netflix? Lol.)

As for the rest of the gang? They're as stressed out as ever. Bellamy is still up in space on The Ark with Raven, Murphy, Emori, Monty, and Echo, though he's seen insisting in the new footage that they need to get back down to the ground. Octavia is trying to keep the peace in the bunker by, you know, killing anybody who tries to defy her leadership. We get a few quick glimpses of her fighting as she declares that you're either with Wonkru or against Wonkru and that you must choose.

The new teaser ends by declaring that there are no good guys and no bad guys. There are only survivors. The 100 returns to The CW on April 24th.
