Officials responded to a fatal crash in the 600 block of Leesville Road early Saturday morning.
A witness said the car veered across Leesville Road and into a yard where it slammed into a tree at an extremely high rate of speed around midnight. The car caught fire and also ignited the tree.
Lynchburg Police and the Lynchburg Fire Department were on the scene within minutes.
Nearby residents said the force of the car wreck shook their homes.
According to officials, rescue of people inside the car was not possible.
Officials identified the driver as Jamar Guy, 28, and his passenger was Eric Miguel Gooding, 28 both, from Lynchburg.
