From Chief Meteorologist George Flickinger at ABC13 - WSET:
Precipitation begins as rain on Sunday morning. As temperatures cool overhead throughout the morning and afternoon, rain gradually changes to snow.
You may observe several hours of snow in Lynchburg, Bedford, Roanoke and Farmville. I have accumulations at 1” or less. Some of you could get a little more if “banding” sets up
Road conditions will worsen west and north in the 1” to 3” range. Including the mountains around I-81 into SW Virginia, Roanoke, Bedford, Amherst and Nelson. Lower elevations will have less snow.
The snow stops Sunday night. Whatever snow is left on roads and yards won’t start melting until late next week.
After the snow ends, temperatures will remain below freezing all day for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs only reach the 30s, lows in the single digits.
