Restrictions to be Eased for Va. Restaurants, Social Gatherings Saturday

(WSET) — Starting Saturday, May 15, COVID-19 restrictions in Virginia will ease.

Restaurants will again be allowed to stay open and sell alcohol past midnight.

Social gatherings will be allowed 100 people indoors and 250 outdoors.

As for capacity limits at entertainment venues, indoor venues can operate at 50% capacity or up to 1000 people, while outdoor venues will be allowed to operate at 50% capacity with no cap.

A couple of weeks ago, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam lifted capacity limits for outdoor recreational sporting events, which allows for up to 1000 spectators at outdoor sporting events. Indoor venues are limited to 50% capacity or up to 250 people.

"We are reviewing the new mask and distancing recommendations and will update our guidance accordingly," Gov. Northam said.

Looking ahead to June 15 -- that's the day Gov. Northam says he will lift all capacity and social distancing measures -- and potentially the mask mandate.
