The YMCA of Central Virginia is hosting a "Fill the Bus" event, Wednesday, May 6.
They will be driving their bus to designated neighborhoods in Lynchburg collecting items for "Healthy Body Busy Bags" that will then be distributed to kids in area neighborhoods that have been identified to be in great need.
The bags will contain items that will "keep bodies moving and brains engaged." Y officials say they realize that not all children have access to healthy snacks or items that will help them stay active, so they are leaning on neighbors to help fill the need.
Some of the items to donate include granola bars, crackers, snack mix, fruit chews, applesauce packs, apple/banana chips, pretzels, yogurt covered fruit, veggie straws, cheese crackers, graham crackers, and toys like jump ropes, Frisbees, coloring books, coloring pencils, crayons, balls, play dough, Rubik's cubes, card games, board games, Slinkys, race cars and Legos.
The Y bus will be visiting the following neighborhoods on Wednesday, May 6 to collect donations:
- Russell Springs Estates
- Hickory Hill
- Farmington Neighborhood
- Peakland Place
- Hilton Place
- Colonial Court
- Briarwood
- Linden Place
- Parkland Drive
- Quarry Drive
- Morrison Street
- Arrow Street
- Royal Boulevard
- Timberlake Drive
There will also be a drop off station at the Jamerson Family YMCA at 801 Wyndhurst Dr. in Lynchburg, from 9am - 3pm on Wednesday, May 6th.
