Roanoke garage rockers The Red Skulls frequented local music spots in 2002, making ears ring and feet move. Playing mostly around Southwest Virginia and Raleigh or Chapel Hill, North Carolina, they gained a following and reputation for their loud, wild shows.
The members of The Red Skulls, brothers Joe and Sam Lunsford, Simon Nolen, and Dan Bivins, went on to perform in several well loved acts over the years. Bands that have included at least one member of The Red Skulls are, just to name a few, The Lobsters, Red Clay River, The Young Sinclairs, and Stimulator Jones.
The Red Skulls' undeniably catchy hooks were missed for over a decade and a half, until they surprised the Star City with a reunion this past April at the Illbotz Turn 40 show at Martin's Downtown. This was an unexpected treat for fans, because two of the members had long since relocated to Richmond, Virginia.
Catch The Red Skulls at The Spot this February for a rare performance with special guests, exotica surf group Cinematheque and power duo Dover & The Elevators!
