Lynchburg City Schools Temporarily Suspends In-Person Learning

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — Lynchburg City Schools announced in an emergency meeting on Monday afternoon that classes will be 100% virtual for the rest of the week.

Younger students will continue their work on the platform Seesaw. Older students will go back to Google Classroom. All students will keep their same teachers.

Ultimately, a spike in COVID-19 cases caused school board members to suspend in-person learning starting Tuesday through Friday.

As of Monday, there are six confirmed cases of COVID-19 within Lynchburg City Schools. Superintendent Dr. Crystal Edwards says that number will likely go up as they continue to investigate more potential cases.

The rate of infection rose to 15% in the City of Lynchburg this week, a number above the recommended rate to have in-person schools, which is 5%.
